On Thursday afternoon Mr. Tran and Mrs. Johnstone came into our classroom to talk about comparing New Zealand and to their family's country. Mr. Tran was from Vietnam and reports that he had escaped on a boat! He also says that his job was to carry a bucket and plunge his bucket into the flooding bamboo boat and then throw the water over the side. Mr. Tran is working at the Waikanae Four square and says his dream is to be a manger
of his own supermarket. Here is a map of Vietnam...
Mrs. Johnstone is from South Africa, though we
did not recognize it through her accent as she was
in NZ for a while. She moved over to NZ because
she thought that South Africa was getting a little to
dangerous. Although she did not just move here
freely, she had to find work and were going back
and forth for three to four years first staying in Africa
for one year then moving over to NZ for one year and did that until because her and her husband stayed together for three years they were allowed a
permanent visit to NZ to look for work.
