Guest Speakers

On Thursday afternoon Mr. Tran and Mrs. Johnstone came into our classroom to talk about comparing New Zealand and to their family's country. Mr. Tran was from Vietnam and reports that he had escaped on a boat! He also says that his job was to carry a bucket and plunge his bucket into the flooding bamboo boat and then throw the water over the side. Mr. Tran is working at the Waikanae Four square and says his dream is to be a manger
of his own supermarket. Here is a map of Vietnam...

Mrs. Johnstone is from South Africa, though we
did not recognize it through her accent as she was
in NZ for a while. She moved over to NZ because
she thought that South Africa was getting a little to
dangerous. Although she did not just move here
freely, she had to find work and were going back
and forth for three to four years first staying in Africa
for one year then moving over to NZ for one year and did that until because her and her husband stayed together for three years they were allowed a
permanent visit to NZ to look for work.

Winter Tournament 2014 Kapanui School

IMG_0513.JPGAs Kapanui school has many events and celebrations. In Winter Tournament you get to try a wide variety of sports including Netball, Hockey, Riper Rugby and Soccer. As part of Netball we arrived full of pride as we walked down the courts to our future games we surround our other teams and hope for this wonderful weather to stay shining in the courts.

In our first game we could see that the other team had played before. We had two of our best players removed. One was our centre and she was the hope of the team but she wasn't well that day, and the other was our attack and him and our shooter really worked together, but he was replaced by another kapanui team member. They did not work very well together as our new team member didn't know where to attack!!!As soon as that horn blew the other team had already scored. They worked so well together after round after round after round. We ended up winning 2 out of 4 games.
